About Dan
Who The Heck is Dan?
Hey there, inquiring minds! I’m Dan - a digital marketing specialist, writer, and content creator with a passion for blending strategy and creativity to make truly impactful digital experiences. Over the years, I’ve worked on everything from crafting sharp copy to managing dynamic social media campaigns, all while staying ahead of the latest trends in AI tools and digital marketing strategy.
Beyond the desk, I’m a cat dad, a sci-fi and horror nerd, and I’m never far from a bag of Hot Cheetos. My approach is all about connecting with audiences in meaningful ways that get noticed and resonate; whether it's through insightful articles, engaging social media presence, effective email campaigns, or even compelling video content.
Welcome to my corner of the internet - let’s make something awesome together.
My Professional Journey
I was born in Sacramento but spent my childhood in the small town of Winters, California. After my parents split, I moved with my mom to Davis, where I finished high school before diving straight into the workforce. Eventually, I decided to set my sights on the future and enrolled at Sacramento City College, where I immersed myself in a mix of design and content creation courses - from Advanced Photoshop and Illustrator to Game Design, Typography, 3D Modeling, Public Speaking, and Writing.
When I was preparing to transfer to Sacramento State University, I landed an entry-level job at a local tech startup called SkySlope. I saw the potential in this business, so I decided to make a bold pivot: I put school on hold and focused on growing my career there. Over my six years at SkySlope, I worked my way from Technical Support Supervisor to joining their newly formed Marketing team as a Digital Content Specialist.
When the pandemic hit, SkySlope was forced to downsize, and the Marketing team was mostly dismantled. After a challenging year of self-reflection, a few temporary marketing gigs, and a lot of time at home with my cats, I found a home at another fast-growing local company - MyOutDesk. I've been here for nearly five years now as a Digital Marketing Specialist, where I wear many hats: managing our social media, concepting campaigns, writing blogs, case studies, and B2B emails, as well as some graphic design and even stepping in front of the camera when needed.
My journey may not have gone exactly to plan, but it’s given me a well-rounded skill set that I apply to everything I do. Today, I’m proud to leverage that experience in a career I’m passionate about, ensuring each project stays sharp, cohesive, and impactful. And, of course, fun whenever possible.
My Human Experience
When I'm not crafting content or diving into digital marketing data, I'm just living life as a homeowner here in Sacramento. I’m also engaged to my best friend; she’s a teacher with over a decade of experience in behavioral therapy, and her job is 10x harder than anything I do. She inspires me every day. We share our home with a small crew of adorably diverse cats because animals have always held a special place in my heart. Honestly, if I hadn’t followed my passion for creativity, I’d probably be working in animal welfare, doing my part to make life better for our furry friends. In fact, one of my long-term goals is to someday manage my own animal sanctuary of some kind. Time will tell.
The rest of my heart belongs to all things creative and nerdy, from movies, storytelling, and video games to technology, music, and design. I’m a firm believer in the power of creativity to make our lives better, whether it’s functional, expressive, or just plain fun.
Despite my indoor interests, I’m also big on outdoor escapes, like camping and hiking. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than disconnecting from the city, kicking back by a lake or river, and letting nature refill my creative energy.
And because I believe the details connect us, here’s a snapshot of some of my favorite things:
Movies (sci-fi, horror, action, comedy, biopics… I like it all)
Reading (novels, comics, etc.)
Animals (They’re usually better than people)
Autobiographies (Last read: Bob Iger)
The psychology side of marketing (I like knowing what makes us tick)
Building things with my hands (Mostly home improvement)
Halloween and Christmas (Oct - Dec = best time of year)
Dinosaurs (never outgrew my childhood fascination)
My Jeep (SUV, glorified grocery-getter)
Artisan sodas (glass bottles are just better!)
Buffalo-flavored anything (I like spicy stuff)
HIIT workouts (Because I’m not getting any younger!)
